Bring a rescue home

International Adoptions

Bring a Halfway Home rescue home to the USA or Canada—here’s how it works, and how we help every step of the way.

Health & vaccinations

Before travel, each dog receives the vaccinations and veterinary health checks required for entry through our partner Hospital Cavallini.

Travel & paperwork

We prepare the health certificate and export documents your country requires and help coordinate safe travel—including with pet-travel partners.

A smooth handoff

We stay in touch through arrival, so you and your new companion are set up for success.

How it works

1. Choose a dog—or tell us what you're looking for—and submit an adoption application.

2. We complete the vaccinations, health check, and travel documents.

3. Together we arrange the flight—with a travel partner, or as your in-cabin companion.

4. Welcome your rescue home.

Costs

The adoption fee is a donation toward the animal's prior veterinary care. International travel costs—flights, a travel crate, and export paperwork—vary by destination and airline. Contact us and we'll give you a current estimate for your city.

For U.S. supporters

Donations from the United States can be made tax-deductibly through our partner, Amigos of Costa Rica.
